Reminiscent of the Bauhaus-influenced watches designed by Max Bill during the same era, this Caravelle approaches modernism from a distinctly American perspective. Its clean geometry and restrained layout are enlivened by a bold blue radial dial and crisp white markings—a combination that feels both unmistakably Caravelle and unusually expressive. The dial is the star of the watch. White radial minute marks surround applied hour markers with tritium dots, while a framed date window at three o’clock gives the composition a practical asymmetry. The distinctive 1970s case complements the dial without competing with it. Caravelle was Bulova’s accessible watch line, but this example was manufactured in West Germany. The clearly marked N4 date code confirms production in 1974.
In December 2025, I personally completed a full service of the original Caravelle/Bulova Cal. 11OWACD automatic movement. The movement was fully disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated using industry-standard lubricants, reassembled, regulated, and functionally tested. No movement components were replaced. The watch is currently keeping excellent time. All replaceable case gaskets were renewed. The original Caravelle-signed crown could not be repacked because of age and wear. The watch is not water resistant and should be kept away from water. The watch retains its original case and stainless-steel back, blue radial dial, applied markers and tritium dots, hands, signed crown, and Cal. 11OWACD movement. It is fitted with an excellent GS replacement crystal and a tan suede strap.
| Case | Good, honest condition. The chrome-plated base-metal case shows normal wear, with the plating worn through in some areas. The stainless-steel case back is in good condition and retains a clearly legible N4 date code. The original Caravelle-signed crown shows visible wear to its chrome plating. |
